Scott's World

Being raised in a family whose members were born either in England, America or Australia has left me with grammar and spelling habits that can most charitably be described as "non-standard"…I was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey and promptly began moving about every 2 to 4 years, mostly in NJ but once in New York as well. This set a pattern for my life that didn't improve when I joined the Army after graduating from High School: one of the crowning achievements of my life will be when I manage to stay in one city for 5 or more years, just to be able to say I did it; it hasn't happened yet…

Although I retired from the Army several years ago, I'm still very much an NCO in my thoughts and attitudes about life, and the way I tend to approach things. It's not hard to understand: half my life has been spent living as well as working in uniform, and I'm convinced it colours your thinking for life, in very positive ways. While the Signal Corps trained me in communications operations, repair and maintenance (radios, telephones, switchboards, Communications Security material, etc.) I trained myself in computer operations and repair very early in my career. I've since made that my career field on retirement from the service, and have integrated that into my current position as a private investigator for an investigations firm. The joke in my family is that now, after 20+ years of shooting Minox cameras for enjoyment, I may actually begin shooting them "professionally"...

I picked up a love of both photography and writing while still a child, and it has stayed with me throughout my life, culminating this year with the publication of my first book, "Minox - Marvel in Miniature". Although I suspect my film based cameras are going to continue to see plenty of good use in the future, I recently took a tentative step into digital photography with the purchase of a Canon S300 Digital Elph camera and am very impressed with the results so far. I've also just discovered 16mm Minolta cameras, having picked up a venerable Model 16 II and accessories, as well as a complete MGS kit. Much to the surprise of those who know me (and to my surprise as well) I've also very recently become reacquainted with premier quality 110 Pocket Instamatic film format cameras, and finding that I love them. I'm currently working after hours on my second book, an adventure novel that will hopefully be in publication before the end of next year.
